The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) is providing a $1 million grant to support Botswana's transition to clean energy. This is financial support and technical assistance to support the government of Botswana to address important gaps in policy, regulatory and legal frameworks identified at the Africa Energy Market Place.
In a statement, the SEFA said these include introducing least-cost planning, reducing adverse environmental impacts and supporting increased private sector participation in renewable energy investments.
The project is expected to produce, among other things, a national grid code, a cost of electricity service (CoSS) study and a licensing framework to regulate electricity sector activities.
