The regional production of olive oil will exceed 150 thousand tons in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid during the 2021-2022 agricultural season, Moufida Kadri, head of department at the Regional Commissariat for Agricultural Development (CRDA), told TAP.
In addition, the storage capacity in the region is 12205 tons including 1800 tons at the National Oil Office, 9247 tons in private oil mills and 1158 tons at the Office of Public Lands.
The olive harvesting season will start on 20 October 2021. The prices were fixed as follows: the price of picking 220 millimes per kg and the price of extraction between 110 and 120 millimes per kg depending on the mode of pressure.
In the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, olive groves occupy 50% of the cultivable area and 87% of the area devoted to fruit trees. They cover 284 ha, including 6 ha under irrigation, i.e. 11 million olive trees.
